I usually like watching Marathi programs more than any other programs (if I am not watching CNBC or CNN-IBN). I am not a proponet of reality shows but I have found ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ on ZEE Marathi interesting and I have started liking that show. It’s a reality show to search for Marathi singing talent. I have not enjoyed watching any other reality show as much as I enjoy this. One very strong reason is that it is related to singing and it’s a program in my mother tongue. Other reasons why like this program is that the program really looks like reality show, meaning nothing enacted or faked. And most importantly it does not fool people by asking them to SMS and select the best singer. May be later the program might adapt to that strategy but so far everything seems to be good.
I particularly liked today’s (31st Oct 06 – Tuesday) program and that’s the reason I give it an exclusive mention here in my post. A contender called Ameya performed remarkably well that impressed the host, the judges, the audience in the studio, and obviously all television viewers across the state (and possibly even the country). Ameya had some physical disabilities and yet his performance was exceptionally. He sang with such exuberance that he infused joy and delight in the atmosphere at the studio. I was enjoying his singing and was feeling so lively. Imagine the state of the people present at the studio. The crowd appreciated his skills and he is the only contestant (till date in that program) who got so much applaud and cries of ‘once more’. The judges were full of praises for him. ‘Mitra mala nachavasa vatat hota (Friend, I felt like dancing)’ said Avadhut Gupte, ‘Mala tujhya barobar yeun gavasa vatat hota (I felt like coming and singing with you)’ said Devki Pandit, ‘A rock performer is born’, were some of the sweet words that Ameya was conferred with. And he deserved it. However, he did not win the contest but that did not matter much, as the audience had already rewarded him so much.
One of the most enjoyable performances that I have ever seen. Though I have not seen all shows of ‘Indian Idol’ or other similar shows, I am sure of all the performances that I have seen, this one was the best. And I am going to cherish it for a very long time. It was also very inspirational that despite the disabilities Ameya made us all swing to the tunes of the song he sang.
Feels really nice. Marathi maansa jaagaa hoo!!!
