I was watching news this evening, as usual when one news caught my eye. It was nothing extraordinary. However, the number of times the news & its details were flashed on screen on one of the news channel makes me particularly write about it.
Sharne Warne is retiring and there must be too many mixed reactions from cricket lovers and his fans in particular. Warne has surely been an awesome bowler and a wonderful cricket player at times. Also one more wonderful Australian bowler, Glenn McGrath will bid farewell to the cricket career as a bowler. There was very little that was mentioned about McGrath. Sharne Warne seemed to steal the show as usual, not in the right sense though.
Let me remind you that I was watching one of the Indian news channel, which are famous for adding sensitivity to any bit of information they have and make it sellable. As I continued watching the news piece, what irritated me most was the repeated telecast of acts with which Warne had disgraced himself. The scandals, drug offence and his off field controversies were bombarded on the minds of the viewers. His indulgence in sexual acts and the videos published were being telecasted openly. What I fail to understand is the reason for showing all this. Was it to make the news more sizzling? Is Sharne Warne brand not enough to make news sellable?
Sharne Warne with some two hot models, enjoying themselves in hotel room was regularly telecasted by the news channel. Sex surely sells but Warne is known to the world as a cricketer, a bowler probably. What he does in his personal life is by no means a concern for us or the media. It is for him and his wife to sort out what he does out of his married life. But the news channel was not able to get an USP for that piece of information.
The fact that Sharne Warne is retiring would have itself brought many interested eyes & game fans near to TV sets to know more. However, his controversies were used as baits. I would have instead appreciated seeing his achievements, his wriggling deliveries, wickets, and so on. After all there are better means to bid a memorable farewell to this ace bowler & cricketer.

Good to see u back !! And what a comeback (A blog on my favourite sport). Yes i feel whatever u have said is true. I respect Shane Warne for what he is, m not concerned about his personal life. Who cares if he is enjoying with hot babes or whether he is taking drugs. That surely doesnot make him a villain. I love the way he used to bowl and just bamboozled the batsmen. I salute "SHANEY" for what he has given to cricket and he will always be a great coz "CLASS STAYS PERMANENT" and he is a class act !!!!!! Cheers
