Global Warming – A Rundown

We all have felt the torturous heat prior to this monsoon. However, we merrily choose to neglect that this could be due to global warming. I have observed that people reason out the rise in temperatures over a period of time; yet there is very little awareness about global warming among people.

I met my friends (ex-colleagues actually) as few weeks backs and like everyone we started discussing on the then hottest topic – heat. I heard statements (both in irritating and pitiable tone) that – “Garmi bahot baddh gayi hai boss” (the heat is increasing too much), “Kitni garmi ho rahi hai yaar aajkal, ho kya raha hai” (it’s too hot these days, what is happening), and so on. Based on the some articles and news information that I had read, I said this could well be attributed to global warming. To my surprise few of them in the group did not know what is global warming, except that this word appears somewhere sometimes and the connection between global warming and increase in temperature levels. That is when I thought that if this is the situation with working class and professionals, there is a lot of homework to be done on awareness about global warming.

Here is a quick overview on global warming (source: National Geographic website)

What:
Global warming is a condition wherein the climate and temperature patterns across the planet are getting transformed only to increase the overall temperature.

Causes:
Primarily emission of greenhouse gases has caused global warming. Fossil fuels when burnt undergo combustion and produce greenhouse gases. Studies show that most damage has been caused due to carbon dioxide.

Consequences:
Plenty and these could be terrifying. The ice at the poles and the sea ice will melt, thus causing increase in sea level, which may result in floods. Hurricanes, droughts, storms, some species might become extinct, widespread of certain diseases, and many more that could follow as a chain reaction.

Resolution:
Can there be any possible solution that can avert the global warming threats. Certainly it is possible to control global warming if things are planned perfectly and followed with strict discipline. There are efforts being carried out to cut down on greenhouse gases and everyone can help in this case.

Down The Memory Lane - The Times of DD

The weekend was bad, rather not so good; my back ache had buckled me to the bed, not allowing me to stay in one position for more than 4-5 minutes. I was surfing through the television channels lying on bed, and soon I noticed that I was doing nothing but going from 0 to 54 (that is the only number of channels I have on my television) and then again 0 to 54, and then again and again. I was tired watching that Indo-Pak terror debate, reality shows were irritating me, and I couldn’t handle any more breaking news with my broken back, neither was I interested in any kind of saas-bahu or the rona-dhona type of soaps, south Indian films dubbed in hindi were a big NO, I was in no mood for business news either, I had also had enough of Ghajini and Rab Ne trailors, songs, and reviews. I remember, only thing that possibly kept me glued to any particular channel was the advertisements – Limca (I love this ad for its jingle, the zing, and the babe, of course), Raymond, Bingo , few insurance ...

Andu & Bandu: Tale of Two Naughtys

All characters in this story may appear to be fictitious.  Any resemblance to real persons, living, dead, or missing could be surprisingly coincidental. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Virar station, 7pm, Andu (pronounced as UNDO) and Bandu (as BUNDO) were waiting for some other friends to arrive. They all were to go for a picnic near Arnala beach. Amidst the entire crowd, a not-so-beautiful-but-fair girl passed by. Andu, a guy with short stature craned his neck to get her glimpse and then turned to Bandu to check if he saw his act. Bandu too, taking advantage of his height, had taken darshan of that beauty. And they both smiled, rather laughed at each other. “Men will be men,” roared Bandu and they burst out into a thunderous laughter again. Andu and Bandu both are 30 something shaadi-shuda guys, not to each other ofcourse – happily married, not gay-ly . Like the scene at the Virar station, there are many coincidences of them liking th...

The Tormenting Tale of TimesJobs

Important: Please read my earlier post on Timesjobs.com . The reference to context will then be simpler. My experience with Timesjobs.com has been vexatious. It has almost turned out to be like "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" . If Emily saw ghosts at 3am in the morning, I would often wake up with the nightmare of Timesjobs.com personnel (mostly a Sonia Oberoi or Rekha Singh) asking me if "I am in the right job" or someone else offering me a "Citibank Credit Card" Yes, a credit card indeed. Timesjobs.com itself is out of job or providing jobs and hence has started selling credit cards - IRONY, I surmise. All my attempts to "UNSUBSCRIBE" from their job alert and mailing services have failed, to the extent that I wrote to YAHOO to please have my email address either deleted or changed (I will post a screen-shot of a reply from YAHOO SECURITY TEAM in my next post). However, I still made a brave, despondent attempt to "UNSUBSCRIBE" f...
